1. Background
Agriculture remains a critical pillar of food security, employment generation, poverty reduction and economic development, particularly in regions increasingly affected by climate change. The growing challenges of environmental degradation, declining soil fertility, water scarcity and changing weather patterns necessitate a shift toward innovative, technology-driven and sustainable agricultural practices.
The Centre for Climate-Smart Agriculture (CCSA), Cosmopolitan University Abuja, has developed the Certificate Programme in Digital and Climate-Smart Agriculture to equip young people, agricultural professionals and aspiring agripreneurs with the knowledge, practical skills and entrepreneurial mindset required to thrive in the modern agricultural sector.
The programme combines digital agriculture, climate-smart farming practices, emerging technologies and enterprise development to produce a new generation of agricultural innovators capable of driving sustainable agricultural transformation and food security.
2. Programme Objectives
The programme aims to:
- Equip participants with practical skills in climate-smart and precision agriculture.
- Develop competencies in the application of digital technologies for agricultural productivity and sustainability.
- Introduce participants to emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics and Blockchain.
- Strengthen participants' understanding of soil science, moisture management, carbon and nitrogen cycle management, and sustainable land-use practices.
- Provide practical farming experience through hands-on learning and supervised farm activities.
- Develop entrepreneurial and agribusiness management skills for sustainable agricultural enterprises.
- Prepare participants to establish and scale commercially viable agricultural ventures.
3. Programme Structure
The programme spans twelve (12) months and is divided into three phases:
Phase 1: Foundation and Mindset Development
Duration: 1 Month (1st August – 31st August)
This phase focuses on developing the foundational knowledge, mindset and entrepreneurial orientation required for success in modern agriculture.

The programme is developed, managed and implemented by the Centre for Climate-Smart Agriculture (CCSA), Cosmopolitan University Abuja.
