CCSA, NiWAB and SmartSourcing Limited Ink Landmark Agreement to Revolutionise Nigeria's Agricultural Sector
A significant step towards transforming Nigeria's agricultural landscape was taken today with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Nigerian Women in Agricultural Business Cooperative Society Limited (NiWAB), the Centre for Climate Smart Agriculture (CCSA) and SmartSourcing Limited. This tripartite partnership aims to establish a groundbreaking NiWAB Cooperative-Owned Climate-Smart Integrated Farm System, fostering food security, empowering female agripreneurs and promoting sustainable agricultural practices nationwide.

The MoA, executed in Abuja, formalises a collaborative framework where NiWAB, as the Project Owner, will lead the initiative. CCSA will serve as the Project Management Consultant, providing supervisory oversight, technical consultancy, and innovative solutions across the agricultural value chain, as well as facilitating training programs.
The joint vision of the parties is to unlock the immense potential of Nigeria's agricultural sector, create robust economic opportunities for female agripreneurs, and significantly contribute to the nation's food and nutrition security, as well as its environmental resilience. The proposed partnership includes setting up an integrated farm. An ambitious farm system, encompassing sustainable crop and livestock production, fishing trawlers and coldroom processing units, agro-processing units, advanced climate-smart practices, comprehensive water management systems, training and research centres and efficient marketing and distribution channels. A key focus will be on improving tomato production to reduce post-harvest losses.
"This MoA marks a pivotal moment for Nigerian women in agriculture," stated a representative from NiWAB. "We are thrilled to partner with CCSA and SmartSourcing to bring this transformative project to life. It's not just about farming; it's about building a sustainable future, empowering our members with the knowledge and resources they need to thrive and ensuring food security for all Nigerians," as said by the President of NIWAB, Lady Gracetiti Fredson.
The Centre for Climate-Smart Agriculture emphasised the technical expertise and strategic guidance it will bring to the project. "Our commitment is to implement best practices in climate-smart agriculture and ensure the successful establishment and operation of this integrated farm system," said the CEO of the Centre, Dr Rislana Kanya. "We believe this project will serve as a model for sustainable agricultural development, demonstrating how innovation can address critical challenges like climate change and food insecurity."
The project will be overseen by a Joint Steering Committee (JSC), comprising representatives from all three parties, which is responsible for setting tasks, allocating resources, reviewing progress and engaging with stakeholders. Funding for the project will be sourced through grants, investments from equity and non-equity partners and contributions from stakeholders. NiWAB has committed to pay an advance payment to CCSA to catalyse the project.
This strategic alliance is poised to significantly impact Nigeria's agricultural productivity, enhance the livelihoods of countless female agripreneurs and champion environmentally conscious farming methods, setting a new standard for agricultural development in the region.
