The Centre for Climate-Smart Agriculture (CCSA) at Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, in a landmark collaboration with the Jigawa State Government, has successfully concluded a transformative three-day "Train the Trainers" initiative. The program, held from April 9th to 11th, 2025, equipped 60 educators from across the state’s 27 local government areas with the knowledge and skills to champion climate-smart agriculture in their communities. The initiative, a direct outcome of a strategic partnership between the CCSA and the Jigawa State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, aimed to integrate climate-smart agricultural practices into the state’s educational framework. The training provided a comprehensive curriculum covering critical topics such as nursery establishment, effective irrigation techniques, and innovative, climate-resilient farming methods. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops, including a design thinking session where they developed school-based climate-smart agriculture projects. In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Isa Yusuf Chamo, lauded the initiative as a significant step towards a sustainable future for Jigawa State. He was honoured at the event as a "Champion of Climate-Smart Agriculture for Education" in recognition of his pivotal role in fostering the partnership. Moustapha Binta, Head of Operations and Partnerships at CCSA, emphasised the Centre's commitment to building capacity and empowering local communities to address the challenges of climate change through sustainable agricultural practices. The program culminated in the presentation of innovative school-based projects by the educators, with awards given for the most outstanding ideas. The initiative has laid a strong foundation for a network of skilled educators who will now act as multipliers, disseminating climate-smart agricultural knowledge to students and communities across Jigawa State.
